Jordan Hugill opens up about West Brom exit & drops goal celebration hint

Jordan Hugill said he needed helping up off the floor after joining Cardiff City following the termination of his West Brom loan spell - and new boss Steve Morison delivered that pick-me-up.

Striker Hugill revealed his confidence levels were at an all-time low after Christmas. Albion boss Valerien Ismael, who had handed Hugill 20 appearances either from the off or from the bench, moved to bring in Daryl Dike to address Albion’s inability to score regularly and following that move Hugill was frozen out completely.

The Norwich man, whose only goal came in a comfortable win against Bristol City in October, took just five minutes into his debut to find the net in a Cardiff shirt as the Bluebirds inflicted defeat on Albion’s play-off rivals Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Hugill has thanked Morison for the shot in the arm he needed and he intends to ‘prove a lot of people wrong’ while playing in the Welsh capital between now and the end of the season.

“I’m a fighter, I was born a fighter. I’ve fought for everything I’ve got in my life,” Hugill told Wales Online.

“I never turn down a challenge and I looked at the team here, I know what kind of club Cardiff is and it just got me going.

”The manager instilled some confidence in me that I’ve been lacking due to certain things going on this season, not playing for a long time.

“I needed [Steve Morison] to put some confidence in me, tell me I was his first target and that was it, that sold it for me.

“After not playing for a long time... I don’t think I could have been any lower towards the back end of the first six months (of the season). Things weren’t working out for me and to get that goal was just more relief than anything.
