Jonny Howson reveals what Middlesbrough have to do to achieve play-off success
Middlesbrough currently sit seventh in the league and as they approach their final nine games of the season, they will be looking to move upwards and secure themselves a play-off position.
Their final run of games starts tomorrow when they take on Peterborough United who sit second bottom of the league.
Chris Wilder has done a brilliant job with Middlesbrough since he came into the club taking them from 16th to now competing for a play-off position as well as having a very impressive FA Cup run.
Regardless of where Middlesbrough finish this season, there is no doubt that Chris Wilder has them in a good position to go again next season but captain Jonny Howson doesn’t see it like this and believes they have to go all out to achieve their aims now as he told Teeside Live: “I’m sure the manager will say the same. He will 100% want to take the chance that’s in front of us now.
“I know some people might say, ‘Don’t worry, you’ll be stronger next season.’ Or, ‘Come this summer, the manager will be able to do this, that or whatever.’ Football doesn’t work like that. You don’t know what’s around the corner.
“It might work out like that, but it might not. In football, I don’t think anyone can really predict what’s going to happen, so if you have a chance in front of you at a specific moment, you have to do everything you can to take it.
“You can think, ‘Well it might go this way or that way’, but we’ve got a great chance now. If we can take it, I know everyone will be delighted.”
Howson believes his side are good enough to achieve their aims but argues that Middlesbrough need to keep calm as they face their final run of games as he said: “You might not have played great, but sometimes digging in and getting there in the end can
