Jon Rahm to get his 'own LIV golf team' as offer of eye-watering package for joining breakaways on the table

Jon Rahm will reportedly be getting his own team if he decides to make the switch to controversial breakaways LIV Golf.

The 29-year-old has entered talks with bosses of the Saudi-backed circuit as he looks to iron out a deal that would see him join the group. It’s suggested Rahm could bank himself a whopping $300million (£237million) and be handed a healthy 25 per cent equity in his own team if the move is rubber-stamped in the coming days. LIV has been slammed by the likes of former world number one Rory McIlroy, but it appears the reigning Masters champion could be the biggest coup yet for the organisation.

Rahm's move will likely be set in stone in the coming days, with the The PGA and DP World Tours likely to be 'concerned' about a potential move with Rahm having played for them since he turned pro in 2016. It’s believed there aren't like to be any immediate changes to the format of the league, but it is stated Rahm will captain his own team.

The Spanish superstar is said to be poised to sign a five year deal with LIV Golf ahead of the commencement of the series' third instalment in February next year. Golf hero Tiger Woods was asked on the potential switch at the Hero World Challenge. He reckons it would be a surprise to the sport: "Hypothetically would it surprise me, yes, but there's so many different things that have happened in the last, as you said, 48 hours but also in the last few weeks. Things have changed and will continue to change."
