Joleon Lescott explains why Manchester United FA Cup win would not end 'crazy' Man City dominance

It's a seismic Manchester derby in the FA Cup where the underdogs are looking for a turning point against their closest rivals, who are looking to assert their supremacy again as they hunt a Treble.

The year isn't yet 2023 but 2011 and Manchester City are looking for the biggest sign yet that they can reach the high bar that Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United have set. United have been unrivalled in the city for decades and their greatest moment came in the same year the Blues were pulling off an escape act in the third division, and the gap is still there.

Joleon Lescott moved to City from Everton in 2009 to try and win trophies yet had already endured six winless games against United including a painful 96th-minute winner from Michael Owen at Old Trafford in a 4-3 game. Roberto Mancini's side knew they were going into the game as second favourites against the current powerhouse in English football, yet belief had grown.

After a goalless first half, Yaya Toure pounced to send City through to the final and another 1-0 win - this time against Stoke - secured the club's first silverware in 35 years. Down came that hated banner in the Stretford End and up rose the Blues.

It meant a lot for the club and has gone on to be seen as a turning point in the history of City and United, but it also meant plenty to the players. Just as medals are still vindicating Jack Grealish and others for moving clubs, Lescott felt he was seen in a different light by Everton fans after he started lifting trophies.
