John Terry reveals what he 'still hates' about his time at Aston Villa

John Terry has revealed he 'still hates' that Aston Villa didn't get promoted during his sole season as a player there.

The long-time Chelsea captain joined Villa in the summer of 2017 and was part of the team that reached the Championship play-off final that following May, losing 1-0 to Fulham at Wembley Stadium.

Terry made 36 appearances in the final season of his 20-year playing career and played every minute of the play-off campaign against the Cottagers and Middlesbrough in the semi-finals.

After the one-year contract in the West Midlands expired, an offer from Spartak Moscow was declined the following season before the centre-back announced his retirement on October 7th.

Three days later, Terry returned to Villa Park as Dean Smith 's assistant head coach, a role he remained in until late July last year after finally being part of the club's promotion and their consolidation in the Premier League.

In an Instagram question and answer today (Sunday), Terry replied to a Villa fan describing him as an "absolute baller" during his playing stint.

After thanking the questioner, Terry added: "I loved my time at Villa.

"I still hate we didn't get promoted when I played, but so happy to be part of the gaffers [sic] team to get us back in the Premier League."

As of the start of this year, Terry has taken up a coaching consultancy role with former club Chelsea's academy in a part-time capacity delivering on-field coaching sessions, being involved in coaching discussions, mentoring academy players and supporting parent dialogue.
