West Ham United are enjoying yet another fine campaign, with David Moyes’ side still in the conversation of securing a Champions League place whilst also being in the round of 16 stages of both the FA Cup and Europa League.

The likes of Jarrod Bowen, Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek have all proven to be bargains, but there are some members of the West Ham squad who this doesn’t apply for, with winger Andriy Yarmolenko certainly being one.

The Ukrainian joined West Ham from German giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2018 for a fee believed to be in the region of £17.5m as then-new manager Manuel Pellegrini planned a major overhaul.

Fast forward almost four years and the 32-year-old has accumulated just 84 minutes of Premier League football this season across 11 appearances.

Yarmolenko’s first campaign in east London started relatively well, with the winger scoring twice in a 3-1 win away at Everton that September as well as contributing an assist a couple of weeks later against Manchester United.

However, after just nine league appearances the Ukrainian’s season was cut short abruptly as he suffered an Achilles tendon rupture.

Since 2018/19, the winger has gone on to make 65 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and assisting six, meaning that during his entire spell at West Ham so far, each goal contribution has cost around £970k.

This campaign has certainly been a frustration for Yarmolenko, with the 32-year-old yet to start in the Premier League with cup competitions his main route to game time, playing in five of the Hammers’ six Europa League group games as well as all matches in the EFL Cup and FA Cup.
