Aston Villa would have 'world class' talent if Steven Gerrard pulls off controversial Rangers deal
Steven Gerrard's former player and long-term Aston Villa target Ryan Kent, 25, has been labelled as "world class" by Rangers legend Derek Johnstone.
Since Gerrard's arrival as Villa's new manager, several Rangers players such as Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo, Ianis Hagi and Kent have been rumoured to possibly be following their former manager at Ibrox to Birmingham.
Johnstone has commented on the current form of Kent while speaking exclusively to the Liverpool Echo.
Johnstone stated this regarding the Rangers winger: “In the last few games he’s been absolutely world class. I haven’t said that for a long time.
“He’s one of these players where it depends what mood he’s in, whether he plays well or not.
“But all of a sudden he’s got the bit between his teeth and he’s looked as though he’s unplayable at times.
“I’m watching him against Dortmund taking on three and four men and beating them convincingly. That’s never happened before, especially not to German players who are solid.
“He’s playing out of his skin at the moment, hopefully it continues!”
So far this season Kent has two goals and seven assists in 26 appearances throughout all competitions, with his most recent goal involvement coming in the impressive 4-2 win away at Borussia Dortmund.
Villa are once again looking likely for a mass spending spree this summer, as Gerrard looks to continue to shape this Villa squad.
