John Lundstram shifts Rangers 'unfair' blame game from new signings as collective take heavy flak
John Lundstram insists it’s unfair to single out Rangers’ summer signings for flak - because they’re playing no worse than the rest of the Light Blues’ struggling stalwarts.
Gers’ calamitous campaign lurched to another low on Thursday night as they suffered a Cypriot sickener against Aris Limassol. Michael Beale has already paid the price for his disastrous rebuild after being sacked on Sunday.
The gaffer spent £13million on nine new signings but keeper Jack Butland apart, none of those costly recruits have come close to providing value for money. That’s all been too much for the seething Ibrox support, who let rip again at full-time in Limassol with another chorus of boos. The worst of the stick has been reserved for new frontmen Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers - who came at a combined cost of £8million. But Lundstram admits the rest of the squad are also due their own share of the blame. He said: “It’s a difficult period. I think 90 percent of the players in the squad are not showing their full potential.
“The new lads who have come in are taking the brunt of it but I think it’s a collective thing where everyone is a bit low on confidence right now and not playing to the levels we have played to in the past.
“We’ve just got to keep going and get those standards back. I do think it’s a little bit unfair [to focus the criticism on the new boys]. There’s 11 players on the field and 23 in the squad. We are all in it together.
“We win together, we lose together and we stick together and we need to give the fans a little something to get behind us.”
Interim boss Steven Davis insisted it’s now time for his squad to put on a united front as they prepare for another tough trip to St Mirren on Sunday. But Lundstram reckons that
