John Hartson on Rangers title maths that signals Celtic 'party day' but offers cautionary note over Ibrox reverse

Former Celtic striker John Hartson insists the title will be heading to Parkhead with a win over Rangers on derby day - but admits there is a way Michael Beale can "upset the apple cart".

Ange Postecoglou's men are heavy favourites to lift the Scottish Premiership crown as they prepare to face off against their Glasgow rivals on Saturday, with Celtic holding a nine point lead at the top of the table and a vastly superior goal difference. The Hoops come into the showdown having only lost one league game so far this season with Postecoglou targeting a domestic Treble this term.

Across the city, Beale's only slip up since stepping into the hot seat at Rangers have come against Postecoglou's men - in the Viaplay Cup final during a late draw back in January. Hartson reckons if the Londoner can claim three points at Celtic Park there is still hope that the title pendulum could swing towards Ibrox this term.

In contrast, the Welshman reckons it will be time for celebration for Celtic fans if they win in Glasgow's east end. Hartson told The Go Radio Football Show: "Although Celtic are nine points clear if they win they are making a slight first of it, and they have to win.

"They have to put in a winning performance against a team that have lost one game all season and are in incredible form. I believe if Celtic win it, and I have refused to say this all season, it's party day.

"There is no way back. They will go nine clear, plus the goals (difference). But if Rangers win it they could upset the apple cart slightly.

"They will feel they have got a little bit of hope. They have to go and perform at Celtic Park with no fans behind them and against a team who are on fire."
