Rangers told the transfer rules to sign Jose Cifuentes as suitors face 'case by case' criteria

Rangers could land Jose Cifuentes in the summer despite his Los Angeles FC contract running until the end of the Major League Soccer season in November - after the club promised to leave the exit door open.

LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington has openly spoken about the future of the the 24–year-old as the approaches the final months of his contract in America with Rangers being linked with a move for the Ecuador international alongside Leeds United and Espanyol. Cifuentes has openly spoken about his desire to take the step to European football - dating all the way back to 2019 when Celtic were linked with a move.

However, with Michael Beale looking to launch a massive rebuild at Ibrox at the end of the Scottish Premiership campaign he will be desperate to get new faces in early in the summer window. Cifuentes is contracted to LAFC until the end of the current MLS campaign which will run until November - meaning Rangers will have to wait until the winter window to land the midfielder as a free agent.

However, the club have been open to receiving transfer offers for the player - with Thorrington stating that each bid would be considered on a "case by case" basis as they look to recoup a fee for the star. Rangers snapped up Nicolas Raskin from Standard Liege as he approached the end of his deal - and could look to repeat the trick again to land another bargain.
