Joe Cullen keeps Premier League play-off hopes alive

Joe Cullen kept alive his Cazoo Premier League play-off hopes with victory over Jonny Clayton in the final of night 15 at the O2 Arena in London.

'The RockStar' knew his aspirations of a top-four finish could be over with a poor showing in the capital but he downed rival Peter Wright in the semi-final before he triumphed 6-4 over the runaway leader Clayton in the showpiece match on the penultimate evening of the roadshow.

Cullen had thrashed Gary Anderson 6-1 at the start of the night before he defeated Wright by the same score on his way to a second Premier League win of the season. The results have moved him into fourth place at the expense of 'Snakebite' to set up a dramatic finale in Newcastle next week.

Gerwyn Price saw his play-off dream fade after a 6-3 loss to Clayton, who would edge out the already-eliminated Michael Smith in the last four.

Smith had progressed into the semi-final - and earned himself two points - after a surprise victory over Michael Van Gerwen, one of two people alongside Clayton at the start of the night to already be assured of a play-off position.

James Wade lost 6-3 to Wright but Cullen's success in the capital means Wade has now qualified for the play-offs, which take place in Berlin on 13 June.

The Premier League roadshow draws to a conclusion with night 16 at Newcastle next Thursday, where Cullen and Wright meet in the first round with the winner able to confirm the final position in the top four.
