Joe Cole’s story about Jose Mourinho destroying Ricardo Carvalho leaves Peter Crouch in stitches

Joe Cole left Peter Crouch in stitches with a funny story about Jose Mourinho destroying Ricardo Carvalho in front of his Chelsea teammates.

Speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Cole told a series of amusing anecdotes from his playing career.

The former England international who burst onto the scene as a wonderkid at West Ham before going on to play for the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa, revealed that Mourinho was in a league of his own when it came to putting players down.

Cole told the story of the time Carvalho, the classy Portuguese centre-back, was told by Mourinho that he’d never play for him again.

And during the rant, Mourinho told his compatriot that even Mick the kit man would be selected ahead of him in future.

John Terry, number one, [William] Gallas number two, Robert Huth, number three, young kid, number four… and he went, kit man, Mick, I play Mick ahead of you!’

“Mick’s a 50-year-old fella with a big Derby [belly] on him!”

Crouch and the rest of his podcast crew fell about laughing.

“Carvalho!” Crouch said. “He wasn’t bad, was he!”

The Mick in question would appear to be Mick Roberts, who worked as Chelsea’s kit man during Mourinho’s time at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho and Carvalho clearly had a love-hate relationship because the pair went on to reunite at Real Madrid in 2010.

One of Mourinho’s first signings as Madrid boss was the Portugal international, who was a key player during his first season at the Bernabeu.
