Joao Cancelo includes Manchester United in list of biggest Man City threats

Joao Cancelo is not ruling Manchester United out of the title race despite their woeful start to the season.

Manchester City's neighbours were hoping to start a new era under Erik Ten Hag after suffering their worst campaign in Premier League history last season but are currently propping up the table after two awful defeats that have seen them concede six goals. Pep Guardiola's defending champions, in contrast, are top of the league after a convincing start.

Guardiola has already rubbished the significance of City's early four-point lead over Liverpool and will ensure none of his players take anything for granted in the title race. The Anfield club will still expected to push the Blues hard, while three London clubs have made significant additions in the transfer window this summer.

Cancelo counts those clubs as among the very best in Europe never mind the English league, and is also not ready to write Ten Hag's United off. They play Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night in a match that will severely test their credentials.

“We focus mostly on ourselves, so we don't pay much attention to what other teams are doing. Liverpool is a very strong team, Chelsea is going to be there too, Tottenham and Arsenal, of course," he said

"Manchester United haven't started well, but they are a strong side too. I think the best thing about the Premier League is the competitiveness.

"I think it makes you a better player and a better team. We are competing here against four or five of the best teams in Europe, so it pushes us to improve ourselves.”
