Jimmy Thelin picking up Aberdeen FC phone already as Peter Leven told 'we'll keep in touch' by incoming boss

Peter Leven has already spoken to Jimmy Thelin and will provide a regular hotline until he arrives at Pittodrie to make his own big calls.

The Elfsborg head coach confirmed this week that he will become the new Dons boss in the summer. It means that Leven will continue to take charge of Aberdeen for the remainder of the season and hopes it will include a Scottish Cup glory run, beyond Saturday’s semi-final with Celtic. Aberdeen have also confirmed that first-team coach Leven will remain part of Thelin’s new-look coaching staff, which will also include his own long-term assistants Christer Persson and Emir Bajrami.

Thelin will continue to focus on Elfsborg for the rest of the season while Leven keeps the Pittodrie manager’s seat warm for him. The new man, though, will be watching from afar and Leven will be in regular contact with the incoming Swede.

Leven confirmed: “I had a brief chat with him on the phone, letting him know if he needs anything just to let me know. Whether that’s about games, conversations about players, whatever. I got his number and we arranged a chat. We spoke for a good 20, 25 minutes.

“He’s definitely excited. It’s a new challenge for him. It’s good he’s coming with Christer and Emir. They’ll help him and I’m sure he’ll settle fast. He said we’d be in regular contact.”

Leven is pleased that Aberdeen have managed to land their top target Thelin and it helps give a bit of direction to the club moving forward. He hopes it gives them a lift and a bit more confidence to take into their Hampden clash with Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops. The current caretaker admitted: “It’s good to get that clarity.
