Jimmy Thelin in coy Aberdeen FC address as Elfsborg prepare to unveil next boss 'within 24 hours'

Jimmy Thelin has taken a step towards becoming Aberdeen’s next manager after Elfsborg lined up a replacement for their boss.

The Dons were knocked back last month because Thelin didn’t want to leave his current side before a new campaign kick off - but the Dons refused to give up on their man after the Scottish Premiership side were impressed by Thelin when he interviewed for the job last season. At that time the Pittodrie chiefs opted to stick with Barry Robson - but the Swede now looks set to be appointed announce the 46-year-old as their new boss following the disastrous interim tenure of Neil Warnock.

And reports in Denmark state that the path has now been cleared for Thelin to make his summer move to the Granite City with Aalborg boss Oscar Hiljemark set to step into the Elfsborg hot seat. Tipsbladet report that the boss has already said goodbye to the squad at the Danish side.

It is claimed Hiljemark will be presented in Elfsborg within the next 24 hours. It is also noted that Thelin is expected to take some of his management team to Pittodrie when he leaves - leaving Hiljemark to bring in his own men.

However, Thelin has refused to confirm he will imminently be the new man in the Aberdeen hot seat. He said: "We'll see what the future holds.

"We cannot anticipate what happens now. Right now I'm in Elfsborg and I'm only focusing on Elfsborg. I won't talk about anything else at this point. I am used to there being a lot of speculation in this industry."
