Jimmy Thelin Aberdeen FC next manager warning issued as Elfsborg chief gets set to play hardball
Elfsborg chief Stefan Andreasson insists his club will keep fighting to hold onto Aberdeen target Jimmy Thelin.
The Pittodrie outfit are hunting a successor to axed Barry Robson with interim Peter Leven currently in charge. Thelin is firmly on the Reds radar and is understood to fancy the position in the Granite City, but, at this stage, he remains with Elfsborg.
The Swedes are determined to fight for his stay and, although Andreasson accepts his manager is going to leave at some point, is adamant it will be his on his club’s terms. He said: “In the best of worlds, it’s like with players, that you sell the coach. But when the right option comes for Jimmy, we will find a solution to it. There is interest and options for him, but we have concluded in our dialogues that he should continue with Elfsborg. Then we will see what the future holds, we are proud that he is a sought after name.”
Peter Leven remains in temporary charge of the Dons, and will take charge of this weekend's Premiership clash away to Livingston. is open to remaining as caretaker until the end of the season if it helps Pittodrie chiefs land their preferred target. He has also called for trust in the recruitment process as it looks set to drag on.
Leven said: "The boys just need to continue doing what they’re doing and focus. They just need to believe in what we are doing and trust the process.
"The boys are really positive, have been working really hard and are in good spirits. There are good footballers at this club.”
