Jim Goodwin rues Celtic 'no call' from Nick Walsh before goal as he makes Jota confession

Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin insists his side should have been awarded a corner in the build up Jota's stunner for Celtic that sealed victory for the champions.

There was a party atmosphere at Celtic Park as Callum McGregor unfurled the league title flag, and Ange Postecoglou's men got off to the perfect start when Matt O'Riley's corner from the right was met by Stephen Welsh with the centre-back's glancing header finding the net. After a battling display from Goodwin's side there was little they could do to deny the Portuguese winger finding the net, with his long-distance striker finding Kelle Roos' top corner to end the game as a contest.

However, Dons' boss Goodwin reckons a corner should have been awarded at the opposite end before the Celtic man was able to double the lead in Glasgow's east end. However, he stopped well short of blaming whistler Nick Walsh for defeat on the opening day of the campaign.

The Aberdeen boss told Sky Sports: "I thought it was a corner, but that's not the reason we lost the game. It's an unbelievable strike from Jota, but I did think there was a corner that should have been awarded to us.

"The linesman thought (it) as well, but the referee ultimately makes that decision. I'm not going to blame the officials for us losing the game.

"Celtic were by far the better team. They have a lot of quality, and fitness levels aren't where they need to be for any team at this stage. This is a difficult venue to come to at the best of times because you know you are going to be chasing the ball, but we just weren't able to impose ourselves on Celtic and we have to accept that."
