Jim Goodwin in Dundee United transfer pledge as permanent Jamie McGrath deal top of summer wishlist

Jim Goodwin has admitted if he remains Dundee United manager then he would want to keep Jamie McGrath.

The on-loan Wigan Athletic midfielder has played a big part in United’s recent revival that has seen them climb out of the bottom two. Premiership rivals Hibs have been linked with a renewed interest in the Republic of Ireland international but Goodwin has claimed he’d love to have him at Tannadice for the long haul. The United boss is hoping to keep United up and to land the gig long-term and believes he has shown in his time at St Mirren than he knows how to get the best out of McGrath.

Goodwin insisted: “There will be a number of teams in Scotland who will be interested in Jamie. I know it hasn’t worked out the way he would have liked at Wigan but I do think there will be a number of teams down there taking notice of what he is doing. I have worked closely for a couple of years at St Mirren and since coming in here, that relationship is a good one. We work well together and wherever I end up in the summer or what opportunities I get in the summer then I would want to be one of those managers in the mix to try and make Jamie a permanent signing.

“Hopefully, it will be here at Dundee United.”
