Jesse Marsch told he ‘can’t complain’, with obvious reason for sack staring in Leeds faces

Leeds United should sack manager Jesse Marsch regardless of their fate in Sunday’s battle against Premier League relegation, according to Frank McAvennie.

Following a tumultuous season, it all comes down to the final day for the Whites to determine their fate. Marsch revealed he watched Everton survive the drop in dramatic style on Thursday but insisted he is not nervous about how his side will fare.

Indeed, either Leeds or Burnley will drop to the Championship on Sunday evening.

The Whites are in this situation after a season that has never really got off the ground. Injuries have proved a constant problem and Marcelo Bielsa – who led Leeds back to the Premier League in 2020 – got the sack in February.

Former RB Leipzig boss Marsch inspired three wins from five in the early stages of his reign.

According to McAvennie, though, the American has not done enough to stay even if Leeds stay up.

“Do I think he will be there next season? No, not for me,” the pundit told Football Insider.

“He hasn’t really improved Leeds. The whole reason he came in was to stop them leaking goals and that simply hasn’t happened.

“There has been little to no improvement from what I have seen. If they go down, I think he will definitely be sacked.

“Even if he keeps them up, has he shown he has what it takes to take Leeds to that next level next season? I really don’t think so.

“I don’t think he will be there next season and I don’t think he can complain about that.”

Relegation would be a cruel twist for Leeds given it took them 16 years to get back to the top flight. And as Whites fans know well, there is no guarantee they would come straight back to the Premier League.
