Jesse Marsch tipped as 'good' Marcelo Bielsa replacement for Leeds

Jesse Marsch would be a ‘good choice’ to replace Marcelo Bielsa in the Leeds United dugout but could prove to be a risky Elland Road appointment, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Head coach Bielsa’s Whites contract is set to expire at the end of the season and although there has been no confirmation that this will be his final season in Yorkshire, The Athletic correspondent Phil Hay has a ‘hunch’ the Argentinian’s tenure is set to end in May.

The Telegraph have revealed Marsch is among three candidates who could be in the running to replace Bielsa should he leave Leeds in the summer.

The report suggests former Barcelona chief Ernesto Valverde and Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan – who was previously Bielsa’s assistant at Elland Road – would also be contenders for the top job but sporting director Victor Orta has yet to make any advances.

Marsch has been out of work since mutually parting company with Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig in December.

The American had only agreed a two-year deal to take over from the Bayern Munich-bound Julian Nagelsmann in April, with him officially heading to the German side in the summer.

But his tenure proved to be shortlived after only being able to register seven victories in 20 matches at the helm.

Jones believes Marsch would have a good chance of proving to be a shrewd appointment by the Leeds hierarchy if Bielsa does leave Elland Road at the end of the season.

However, the journalist warns the 48-year-old’s underwhelming spell with Leipzig may suggest the move could backfire for the Whites.
