Jesse Marsch has opened up on his pep talks with Rodrigo after he told the Spain forward he wants him to be a big player for Leeds.
Rodrigo has failed to live up to his billing as Leeds’ record £26million signing and best-paid player this season as the club have badly struggled.
The forward managed just three goals and one assist this season under Marcelo Bielsa prior to his opener against Norwich and he produced his best performance of the campaign in Leeds’ huge last-gasp win.
Marsch was delighted by Rodrigo’s display before he came off with a tight thigh, which makes him doubtful for Wolves on Friday, and has spoken to him in an attempt to get the best out of him.
His man-management style is much more hands on than that of Bielsa, who was more aloof from his players and who preferred to speak to them collectively.
Bielsa rarely spoke to them individually and entrusted his coaches with the task of passing on any extra information.
Marsch could not be more different and he puts great stock in communicating on a one-to-one basis and has already invested much time in helping Rodrigo deliver more.
Rodrigo, 31, is Leeds’ most seasoned top-flight player because of his experiences with Spain, Valencia and Benfica and Marsch wants him to be more of a leader.
