Jesse Lingard’s loan move to Newcastle in trouble over Manchester United demands
Jesse Lingard’s chance to move to Newcastle on loan this month is falling away after Manchester United insisted on a loan fee which the Magpies are not willing to pay.
There has been speculation about the England international leaving either on loan during January or on a permanent deal as the Red Devils look to make some money on him before his contract expires in the summer.
West Ham, where he spent some of last season on loan, Tottenham and Everton have all made approaches but Manchester United turned them all down, partly because they did not want to strengthen rivals in the race for the top four.
There is no issue with Newcastle United on that front, though, as Eddie Howe’s men are battling relegation, and The Athletic report that Lingard held talks with United boss Ralf Rangnick to discuss the proposed move, which the German sanctioned.
However, there are issues above Rangnick’s head, with Red Devils bosses asking for a ‘sizeable’ loan fee which even the mega-rich Magpies have decided is too much to pay.
Negotiations are not over, but unless one of the sides changes their stance, the loan move will collapse. Newcastle reportedly made a loan offer of over £5m, but the Red Devils want more than that for the short-term deal.

It seems certain that Lingard will not be a Manchester United player next season, but he is keen to move this month, play regularly and try to earn himself in the England squad for the World Cup later this year.
