Cristiano Ronaldo makes shock admission to friends amid doubts over Manchester United future

Cristiano Ronaldo has told friends he is ‘feeling his age’ and could cut short his Manchester United return as doubts grow over his future at Old Trafford, according to reports.

The 37-year-old, who has not scored in his last five matches, is on course to have his least productive campaign since his first spell with the Red Devils and has faced increasing criticism for his performances.

Although United’s top scorer with eight Premier League goals, he only has half as many as Mohamed Salah – who tops the division – while he has come under fire for his lack of pressing and mobility.

On Friday, manager Ralf Rangnick added further questions over Ronaldo’s future by saying the club needed to invest in a new, younger striker this summer.

‘Edinson Cavani’s contract is running out in the summer and the club needs the best possible centre forward. I think everyone is aware of that,’ said the German.

But if United were to sign a new frontman – they are long-term admirers of Erling Haaland while a fresh move for Harry Kane should Mauricio Pochettino be appointed has been mooted – that player would likely replace Ronaldo in the starting XI.

As well as the club seemingly sensing the need to inject fresh blood up top, The Sun claim Ronaldo himself is having increasing doubts over his ability to keep on performing for United.
