Jeremie Frimpong in Barcelona transfer sights as Celtic windfall chances go up amid three way mega fight

English Premier League big hitters Manchester United are reportedly locked in a three-way battle for the signature of Jeremie Frimpong in the summer transfer window as Celtic look to cash in.

Having left the Hoops for Bayer Leverkusen in a fee that totalled around £11million back in the January window of 2021, Frimpong has gone from strength to strength in the Bundesliga with a string of impressive performances at right-wing-back under former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso's guidance.

Hoops chiefs are said to have inserted a clause which means Celtic are entitled to 30% of the profit should the defender leave the BayArena, with those hopes only increasing thanks to United's reported interest and a World Cup place for the Amsterdam-born talent in Netherlands' squad. And reports have now claimed that the Red Devils will be rivalled by fellow European giants Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the race for the rapid full-back.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, United, Bayern and Barcelona have had direct meetings with Frimpong's agent, Jeffrey Lemmert, as the trio look to secure his signature come the end of the season. United have had well documented uncertainty over current full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and would need direct competition for Portuguese man Diogo Dalot should the former Crystal Palace man depart.

Jules Kounde has been a makeshift option out of his usual centre-back position for Barcelona. Bayern recently made Thomas Tuchel their new manager after sacking Julian Nagelsmann.

Should a supposed £50m transfer become reality - the fee Bayer are said to want in the region of - Celtic would have a potential boost of well over £10m to their coffers.
