Jed Wallace and Scott Malone update emerges ahead of Millwall’s clash with Birmingham

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has revealed that Jed Wallace and Scott Malone are both set to miss this weekend’s clash with Birmingham City due to their respective injury issues.

Wallace suffered a groin injury during the Lions’ 1-1 draw with Preston North End earlier this month and was forced to watch on from the sidelines as his side secured a 2-1 victory over Hull City on Monday.

Malone helped his side clinch all three points in this particular fixture by scoring the opening goal of the game in the 51st minute.

Shortly after this goal, the 31-year-old was substituted by Rowett after picking up an issue with his hamstring.

Currently one point behind Sheffield United who occupy the final play-off spot in the Championship, Millwall will be determined to leapfrog Paul Heckingbottom’s side in the league standings before the regular season reaches a crescendo in May.

The Lions ought to fancy their chances of defeating Birmingham as their opponents suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat at the hands of Blackpool earlier this week and thus will be short of confidence heading into this fixture.

Ahead of his side’s trip to St Andrew’s, Rowett has shared an update on Wallace and Malone.

Speaking to London News Online, the Millwall boss said: “I think he [Malone] did two massive sprints [against Hull].

“He went and closed the keeper down, which was almost the length of the pitch.

“Sometimes that leaves you a little bit vulnerable.

“It looked like he overstretched to make a tackle and that’s when he felt it.

“It doesn’t look too serious but we think he’s probably going to be, at the very least, ruled out of the weekend’s game along with Jed.

“It will be a massive bonus if they are back for the next game, against Peterborough.
