Jamie Redknapp claims Martin Odegaard is now better than Man City ace Kevin De Bruyne

Former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp believes Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has overtaken Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne as the Premier League's best midfielder.

Odeegard scored the third and final goal as the Gunners secured a comfortable victory over Fulham on Sunday, with the London outfit restoring their five-point lead over City at the top of the table. The 24-year-old has now registered 10 goals and six assists in the top-flight this season.

De Bruyne, meanwhile, has managed four goals and 13 assists in the Premier League this term, with the Belgian ace leading the league in assists. While it is the City man who has recorded more goal contributions so far this campaign, Redknapp feels the Arsenal midfielder has taken over the mantle of being the best creator.

"Right now he’s number one. There’s nobody [better]," said Redknapp on Sky Sports. "Normally we would say Kevin De Bruyne is the best midfield player, not just in the Premier League but the world. But something isn’t quite right. He isn’t playing as many games as he’d like.

"But Odegaard does this thing where – all great players possess it – it’s like time stands still when he has the ball. Most players [would rush the shot today], especially midfield players as we’re not used to getting in those situations. But the calmness that he possesses, he’s scored four or five goals like that with that left foot. He’s the captain, he’s the leader."
