Jamie McGrath hands St Mirren boost as midfielder opts against January transfer move despite Aberdeen interest

Jamie McGrath is set to hand St Mirren 's bid for the top six a major boost by opting against a deadline day move away from Paisley.

And boss Jim Goodwin is hoping for further good news as he chases a deal for Hibs midfielder Alex Gogic.

Saints sources yesterday claimed they had done a deal with the capital club that would have seen McGrath move to Easter Road as part of a player swap deal.

But Shaun Maloney has no plans to add the Ireland midfielder to his squad.

The news will be a major boost to boss Jim Goodwin, who has been desperate to cling onto his star midfield man.

However, Aberdeen - who saw talks on a pre-contract break down earlier this month - are monitoring the situation ahead of Monday's transfer deadline, along with English League One outfit Wigan.

Goodwin is, though, hoping to push through a deal for Gogic.
