Jamie Carragher sends Arsenal transfer warning as he urges Arteta to follow Klopp blueprint

Jamie Carragher has offered Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta advice on what he must do in order to close the gap on the big three sides in the Premier League.

The Gunners have turned around their league campaign this season after coming back from three defeats in their opening three matches to becoming serious top-four candidates.

However, the Gunners are some way off challenging for the league title, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea still well clear.

Former Liverpool stopper Carragher believes the north Londoners have come a long way but are at a crucial point where they need to sign two key players to continue their upward trajectory and claimed they need to replicate the Reds' signings of goalkeeper Alisson and defender Virgil van Dijk in 2018.

Carragher said: "Arsenal need to get fourth and if we liken it to what (Jurgen) Klopp did at Liverpool, Arsenal are at the stage where they haven't got a (Cristiano) Ronaldo, they haven’t got a (Harry) Kane.

"Their next two or three signings have to be an Alisson or a Van Dijk. To take them from sort of challenging for the top four to making that jump where you're competing with City, Liverpool and Chelsea."

Liverpool went from being a good side under Klopp to winning the Champions League after signing the two aforementioned stars and Carragher's withering comments suggest the Gunners do not yet have any players of world class ability despite the performances of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale this season.

The Liverpool legend went on to explain how Arsenal specifically need to improve up-front, saying: "They need a really top centre-forward who can really take them up a level."
