Jamie Carragher labels Manchester United summer signing 'madness'

Jamie Carragher has labelled a Manchester United summer signing as 'madness'. United spent big in the transfer window bringing in six additions to try and strengthen their squad, including players which Erik ten Hag knew well from his time in the Netherlands; Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Antony.

However, they also included players who became targets late into the transfer window. Most notably Casemiro who was approached after the Reds came to the conclusion that Frenkie de Jong would not want to leave Barcelona.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate Xtra, in partnership with Sky Bet, Carragher took issue with the Glazers and the former Real Madrid man's arrival. "I’ve spoken about the Glazer ownership in the past and I am fully with the Manchester United fans on their feelings," he explained.

"When United fans are talking about the money spent on transfers and the money the ownership takes out of the club, I get why they’re angry. If the club had a proper transfer structure in place, bringing in top people behind the scenes and they stopped doing bizarre things in the transfer market, which I think this summer was quite like that, especially with the Casemiro deal and the wages that the club will be paying for a player of his age, is madness to me.

"As soon as they put a clear structure together and they bring in proper football people on the board, we’ll start to see a change at the club. On the pitch it could be argued that we have seen positive changes already."
