Jamie Carragher Delivers Damning Criticism Of Marcus Rashford After Atletico Madrid Draw

Jamie Carragher has called for Marcus Rashford to be dropped from Manchester United’s starting XI after another lacklustre display against Atletico Madrid.

United drew 1-1 at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against the Spanish side.

Rashford struggled to have an impact on the match and was substituted by interim manager Ralf Rangnick with 15 minutes remaining.

Speaking after the match, Carragher criticised Rashford’s performance and called for the England international to be dropped.

"He burst onto the scene and he's always threatened to go to that next level, when the top players get to, and he's not there yet.

"We've got to the stage now where I don’t think he should be in Manchester United's XI.

"His performances this season don't warrant being in the team."

Rashford began the season injured and has scored only five goals in his 22 appearances since returning to the side.

The 24-year-old managed just one shot against Atletico after starting on the right side of United’s attack and Carragher believes the forward’s place in the side is now under threat.

"More often than not he is in the team. Even when people are fit they find a position for him," Carragher added.

"He doesn't suit playing on the right, not at all, so it needs to be on the left or in the centre.

"But we're still waiting for Rashford to make that jump to become a United great or a player who can take them to big trophies, and he's not there yet.

"At the age he's at, United need something better than Marcus Rashford right now."
