James Tavernier in Rangers 'ready not rusty' message during gruelling workout in baking Dubai heat

Rangers don’t report back for pre-season for another three weeks.

But for Ibrox skipper James Tavernier the hard work has already started.

The captain is certainly leading by example if photos of him being put through his paces are anything to go by.

Tavernier has been pictured in the searing heat of Dubai during a training session alongside brother Marcus and other English-based players, including Sheffield United’s Luke Freeman and Bournemouth star Jordan Zemura.

It’s only two weeks since the 30-year-old climbed the steps of Hampden to lift the Scottish Cup and end a gruelling 58-game season for the full back.

That was enough for a well-earned rest but he has been working out with the Elite Sports Performance team in the Middle East.

Alongside the message ‘don’t be rusty be ready’ he has been pictured doing fitness work and training sessions with the ball.

And if Tavernier thought Seville was hot for the Europa League Final then Dubai is baking with thermometer nudging 40 degrees Celsius this week.

Fitness specialist Chris Bowman posted the update on Instagram with former Liverpool and England star Emile Heskey among those who have praised his work.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is set to welcome his players back for pre-season training on June 27 and Tavernier looks set to hit the ground running.

The Light Blues have yet to confirm their full summer schedule ahead of their Champions League qualifier but face Spurs and Rennes in Ibrox friendlies.
