James Tavernier blocks out Rangers social media snipers but accepts he'll ALWAYS have to prove himself to fans

James Tavernier insists he blocks out the Rangers social media flak.

The Ibrox captain has come in for stick this season after Gers slipped seven points behind Celtic in the title race and were dumped out of the Champions League at the playoff stage by PSV. Michael Beale was left counting the cost of those results after being sacked, with Philippe Clement drafted in as his replacement.

Tavernier has been over the course in the light blue short before and understands the demands placed on him. He accepts that Rangers players will always have to prove themselves to punters with high standards and that all are entitled to their opinion. But he doesn't go seeking it out on his own time. "I try to do my best every time for this club. I always want to improve as a person and as a player," said Tavernier ahead of the weekend clash against Hibs.

"I have three kids so I tend not to look at social media comments. Everyone is entitled to their views, it is down to me as a person and know where I can improve.

"I have had some amazing experiences with the fans at our stadium, and also others where we let them down with results. Together, we can be very strong and we have to deliver performances.

"You always have to prove yourselves to the fans. This is a club rich in history and you have to deliver every game."

Clement's arrival marks a fresh start for everyone and Taverner is only looking forwards now. he added: "We have dropped too many points. We will have a new way of playing now. A new chapter and we have to go get three points tomorrow."
