James Milner contract latest: Pundit makes compelling case for surprise Liverpool decision
Paul Robinson has explained why Liverpool would be unwise to let James Milner leave as a free agent this summer.
Milner’s contract expires in the summer with his stay at Anfield potentially coming to an end. Since signing from Manchester City at the end of his previous contract, Milner has become a fan-favourite during his time at the club.
Milner’s versatility is second to none within the Reds’ squad. The 36-year-old has played all across the midfield and in both full-back positions during his stay on Merseyside.
The midfielder has appeared 286 times for Liverpool in all competitions so far. In that time, he has contributed to 69 goals over the seven seasons he has played for the club.
The 36-year-old has also added to his personal trophy cabinet since joining the Reds. He has helped Liverpool scoop many trophies, including the Champions League, Carabao Cup and the long-awaited Premier League title.
With his contract expiring however, his future at Anfield is undecided.
Jurgen Klopp has spoken on where Milner’s future lies.
“Millie decides that,” Klopp told Liverpool’s official website at the beginning of May.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Robinson has now lauded Milner’s contribution to the Reds and how he is “an example to all young, aspiring footballers.”
In doing so, he explained why he’s be surprised if Milner doesn’t get one or even two more years at Anfield.
