James Maddison questions Raphael Varane reaction for disallowed Leicester goal in Man United draw

Leicester City star James Maddison has conceded that his disallowed goal was "probably" rightly chalked off but questioned the part Manchester United defender Raphael Varane played in the decision.

Maddison thought he had won the game for Leicester after slamming a shot past David De Gea. However, referee Andre Marriner was advised by VAR to review the goal via the pitchside monitor rule and duly ruled out the strike for a Kelechi Iheanacho foul on the Reds defender in the build-up.

The Leicester celebrations were quickly halted as both sides played out a 1-1 draw. Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Maddison conceded that Varane was likely fouled, though questioned the manner in which Varane went down under pressure from his team-mate.

"I think the referee should probably give a foul in normal [play], to be fair," he said. "The disallowed goal is one of them – you see them given and you see them not given, I’m obviously going to be biased and say it’s not a foul.

"It was a great feeling for about three minutes but as soon as he goes over to the monitor, there's no point him even going over there really anymore because I don't think there's been a time where the refs went over to the monitor and actually not changed the decision, but [it's] one of them.

"Even after that, we had to dig deep and defend deep and we countered but we'll take a point. I saw Varane go down I just thought the way he went down, I'm not too sure how he went down like that when the foul was given.

"The way he went down I thought it was a twist injury without the foul taking place. Kelly (Iheanacho) did well to get it through the legs. Thought I done my job but as soon as the referee
