Jake Trueman's Castleford Tigers career over after suffering devastating ACL injury

Jake Trueman's season is over after suffering an ACL injury. Rugby League Live understands the halfback, who is set to join Hull FC next year, is set for a long spell on the sidelines which will see him miss the beginning of the 2023 season at the MKM Stadium.

He suffered the injury in Castleford's victory over Huddersfield Giants last Friday. Trueman was the star of the show, scoring one and setting another two up as the Tigers beat Ian Watson's in-form side to cement their place in the play-offs.

But that was his last action in Castleford colours. Trueman is now set for a round nine months on the sidelines which will also put a delay on his debut at Hull FC.

It's a cruel blow for all involved. Trueman has been a key player for Lee Radford's side this season, producing 16 assists and six tries. His tally of 22 direct try contributions is only bettered by Jake Connor, Jai Field, Tui Lolohea and Jack Welsby this season. However, Cas now lose their key creator at a crucial stage of the season and ahead of a big game with Leeds Rhinos at Magic Weekend.

It's also a blow for the Black and Whites, who beat strong competition for his signature. The prospect of a partnership with Connor is but one that will not only have to wait, but won't have chance to be worked on during the off-season.

And it's a blow for Trueman, whose hopes of playing his way into World Cup contention are now over. The halfback has grown into the season after recovering from a lower back injury.

For now, the Tigers face a selection crisis before Magic Weekend. Paul McShane is suspended, Niall Evalds had to pull out last week and Gareth O'Brien remains on the sidelines.
