Jake Eastwood among Lincoln City goalkeeper targets as they look for emergency loan

Lincoln City are considering an emergency loan move for Jake Eastwood after their first-choice goalkeeper was ruled out for the season with an ankle injury.

The Sheffield United goalkeeper is among a handful of targets for the Imps as they look to quickly address the awkward goalkeeping situation.

Their recognised number one, Josh Griffiths, will not play any further part for the rest of the campaign after he sustained a fairly severe injury in Lincoln’s recent win against Sheffield Wednesday.

Rookie goalkeeper Jordan Wright has deputised in his absence and, despite impressing in Saturday’s win against Wimbledon, Michael Appleton is on the look out for another shot stopper.

In their last two games, Lincoln have not been able to select a back-up goalkeeper on the substitutes’ bench.

It would force them in having to put an outfield player between the sticks if anything were to happen to the 23-year-old which explains Appleton’s desperation for an emergency arrival.

Our sister site Lincolnshire Live understands that Eastwood is on their shortlist as they are aware that he is not in the fold at Bramall Lane. He has not played a game for United this season and has only been on the bench on six occasions.

If he were to be signed by Lincoln, it would be his second emergency loan of the campaign as, back in September, he was signed on a seven-day basis by Portsmouth.

They were missing Gavin Bazanu and Alex Bass as a result of international commitments and a positive Covid-19 test respectively and needed a senior goalkeeper for their EFL Trophy clash with MK Dons.

Eastwood stepped in but was unable to help Portsmouth to victory as he conceded five times in a thrilling 5-3 defeat.
