Jadon Sancho's actions for Chelsea slammed after dig at Man United's expense
Chelsea supporter and Arsenal legend Paul Merson insists that Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho is winding up supporters at Stamford Bridge following his performance against Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend.
Last week, Sancho caused controversy among the United fanbase after he commented 'freedom' underneath a post from Marcus Rashford following his debut for Aston Villa. The comment was seen as a dig at the Reds following his falling out with Erik ten Hag and his perception of himself being a 'scapegoat' at Old Trafford.
Less than a week later, Sancho produced an uninspiring performance off the bench for the Blues as they were trounced 3-0 by Brighton. The winger was singled out for the third goal where it appeared the Seagulls had found it too easy to cut open their opponents.
Analysing the incident on Sky Sports News, Merson hammered Sancho for the lack of effort put in to stop the goal. "That last goal sums up every fan’s frustration behind the goal," he said.
"Every fan wants to be a footballer and the one thing they will do if they had the chance is be able to run around and work hard. That last goal is atrocious, it’s just one-two and played off him [Sancho], and they just stand there and go: ‘Oh’.
"That’s what winds fans up. When they travel to away games and they use all their hard-earned money and people can’t be [bothered] to chase people back, that’s when fans get the hump."
Sancho will leave United permanently at the end of the season with Chelsea holding an obligation to buy the winger for £25m.
