Jadon Sancho could be about to do what he was brought to Manchester United for

With Manchester United's striker crisis forcing Marcus Rashford to play more centrally in the opening weeks of the season, Erik ten Hag needed some of the club's other wingers to step up. They have failed to do so.

Alejandro Garnacho and Antony have both struggled to impact the games against Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur. However, Jadon Sancho has provided a glimmer of hope.

The United winger’s introduction against Wolves alongside Facundo Pellistri added a sense of urgency to proceedings, with United eventually grabbing the winning goal.

After coming on in the 68th minute, Sancho wasn’t dispossessed once, creating a chance and doing great work in moving the ball forward for his side. This was something that United had been missing for a lot of the game, with Garnacho not creating a single chance for his side during his time on the pitch.

In the period before the goal, Sancho’s introduction gave United a real lift, breathing life into their attack. Sancho caused the Wolves midfield problems for the first time in the game, playing in a slightly deeper role.

His quick dribbling and sharp movement seemed to give United an edge in the midfield, helping to fill the gap that was left by Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes. His work was a key factor in United’s goal.

Against Tottenham he was arguably even better, with 93 per cent passing accuracy and three successful dribbles in his cameo. He completed the same number of recoveries as Antony and completed more dribbles than the Brazilian who played 30 more minutes than Sancho.
