Erik ten Hag still needs to solve £192m transfer problem at Manchester United

Manchester United still have a glaring £192million transfer problem for Erik ten Hag to solve this campaign.

Despite one or two red flags in the opening three games, United have picked up six points from nine on offer and, should they defeat long-standing Premier League rivals Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, it would mark a decent start to the season for Ten Hag and his players. But all is not plain-sailing when it comes to their squad.

United have certainly backed the Dutchman financially since his appointment last summer. However, while he's by no means the sole contributor, a jaw-dropping outlay in one position raises cause for concern.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought in talented right-winger Amad Diallo mid-way through the 2021/2022 season and he paid an initial £37million for the privilege. Handed some early exposure in the first-team, it was not too long before United - and Solskjaer - returned to the market for Jadon Sancho.

But with Sancho, so far, unable to tot-up the numbers that made him such a hit during four seasons with Borussia Dortmund, former Ajax manager Ten Hag added Antony to Old Trafford the following summer. He cost £82million and must now seize the initiative after taking a year to settle in.

If not - and that clock is ticking - the coach who put so much trust in the Brazil forward might have to get creative. Fortunately, there are one or two in-house solutions for Ten Hag and his backroom to consider.
