Jack Grealish snubbed yet again as Steven Gerrard flips Aston Villa transfer stance

Hello and welcome to today's Aston Villa headlines brought to you by on Thursday, April 27. Aston Villa host Norwich City on Saturday with Dean Smith all set for an emotional return to Villa Park - five months after he was sacked back in November.

Jack Grealish was overlooked by Pep Guardiola once more on Tuesday evening as Manchester City defeated Real Madrid 4-3 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

Former Aston Villa captain Grealish sat on City’s bench at The Etihad, as Guardiola selected Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez ahead of him. City only made two substitutes, and Grealish wasn’t one of them.

Grealish hasn’t started any of City’s five Champions League knock-out ties. The only appearance Grealish has made in the Champions League this year was when he came on as a 68th minute substitute in City’s 1-0 quarter-final win over Atletico Madrid.

The Brummie playmaker managed to rile Atletico’s defenders in the second leg, despite not getting on the field. He sparked angry scenes at full-time to earn himself the nickname of ‘Peaky Jack’ amongst some of his City teammates.

But the fact of the matter is Grealish, who quit Villa to play in the Champions League, isn’t affecting the games he wanted to. He now isn’t even getting the chance to do so.

Had circumstances been different, John Terry could be the man standing in the Villa Park dugout as Aston Villa manager instead of Steven Gerrard.

Terry and Gerrard are both members of England’s golden generation and enjoyed illustrious playing careers with Chelsea and Liverpool respectively. The two former Three Lions skippers are both now 41, with Gerrard six months Terry’s senior.
