Jack Grealish addresses lack of goals for Man City and outlines ambitions for rest of season

Jack Grealish insists he has performed well for Manchester City, despite a quiet first season in front of goal for the £100m signing.

City broke the British transfer record to sign Grealish from Aston Villa in the summer, but the England international has taken his time to adapt to his new surroundings. Pep Guardiola has insisted that Grealish was signed for a five or six-year period, and that City are happy with his contributions, but he has also challenged the winger to improve on his four goals and three assists from 28 appearances.

Grealish accepts that he would have wanted more goals by this stage of the season. However, he did state he was happy with his overall performances in a completely new system at City.

He said: “It’s been a lot more difficult than I thought it would be in terms of on the pitch and off the pitch, moving to a new city and so on. It’s been different, but I knew that it was going to be like that. I knew that it was going to be me stepping out of my comfort zone, but I’ve enjoyed it.

“I’ve had my injuries this season, but I think that’s part and parcel of football. It’s about how you overcome them.

“I don’t think it’s any secret to anyone that I would love to have scored more and assisted more this season, but I feel like I’ve been playing well, even when I haven’t been scoring or assisting.”

With three trophies still to fight for, Grealish also offered an insight into the mood in the City dressing room ahead of the run-in for the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
