Jack Draper follows in tennis idol Andy Murray's footsteps by reaching US Open semi-finals

Jack Draper has stormed into the US Open semi-finals, defeating Alex de Minaur 6-3, 7-5, 6-2, and described the victory as a 'dream come true'.

The 25th seed caused an upset by beating the Australian, becoming only the fourth British man in the Open-era to reach the final four at Flushing Meadow. The 22 year old now stands alongside Andy Murray - who won the Open in 201 - Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski in achieving this feat. Prior to last week, Draper had never advanced beyond the second round of a grand slam, but he showed no signs of nerves as he overcame 10th seed De Minaur.

The left-handed rising tennis star maintained his cool to win in straight sets while his opponent struggled to regain control of the match. "To be out here, my first match on the biggest court in the world, it's a dream come true for me," Draper told the crowd after the match. "Thank you for the support, it means the world.", reports the Mirror.

Draper is set to face either world number one Jannik Sinner or 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev next. The two will compete in the remaining quarter-final match at the Arthur Ashe stadium.

Draper, who hails from Sutton, started strong by breaking de Minaur's opening service game but lost only his second service game of the tournament, allowing the Australian back into the set. Unfazed, Draper regained his footing in the match, breaking immediately for a 3-1 lead before comfortably holding serve to convert.

Draper clinched the first set after six set points in a gruelling 39 minutes, while De Minaur seemed to struggle with pain following a slip.
