Ivan Toney speaks out after video ‘f*** Brentford’ video appears on social media

Ivan Toney has apologised after a video of him appearing to say ‘f*** Brentford’ was published on social media.

Brentford had said they were investigating the video of their striker, who is on holiday in Dubai during the Premier League’s winter break.

And the 25-year-old said on Saturday morning his language was ‘unacceptable’ as he apologised to the club’s supporters.

On Friday night Brentford said they were launching an investigation into the video but Toney said he has already spoken to the club’s manager, Thomas Frank, to explain the circumstances surrounding the clip and apologised for it.

‘I am aware of a video that was published on social media … in it I used language that was unacceptable,’ he wrote on Twitter.

‘The video was cut short and edited, but I have to accept the impact this has had and I realise I should not have put myself in that position.

‘I have explained to the gaffer what happened and apologised to him but I also want to apologise to all Brentford fans. I respect the way you all support the team and I have to say how much I love playing for the club and for you.

‘I’ll be back at training next week, working hard to score more goals to win us more games for the rest of the season.’

The 25-year-old has scored six goals in an impressive league campaign so far and it is not known what, if any, action the club will take after the striker’s apology.

Meanwhile, the Bees’ manager, Frank, accepted an £8,000 fine following his red card after the 2-1 Premier League loss to Wolves last weekend. The Dane was dismissed after the final whistle by Peter Bankes after confronting the referee on the Brentford Community Stadium pitch.
