ITV The Chase viewers swear blind they saw contestant at the King's Coronation

Watching The Chase has given viewers the idea of answering problems all over the place. That's the only reason we can think of for so many of them making the same error over the true identity of one contestant on tonight's (Friday) show.

As the contestants were introduced, the first one caught the eye of many. Not just because she was forthright with Bradley Walsh in her introduction and, as it turned out, excellent at answering questions.

The main concern for viewers was that Lisa, 52, from Shrewsbury, actually looked the spitting image of Penny Mordaunt. Last seen on TV at the King's Coronation carrying a massive sword, the Hampshire MP is something of a celebrity after appearing on ITV's reality diving show Splash! and running for Conservative Party leader in 2022.

But it was thanks to Mordaunt's role as Lord President of the Council that she was seen on the screens of millions walking ahead of the King in Westminster Abbey holding the Sword of State in front of her. The regal pose and lush long hair were a dead giveaway for those watching.

Dayjur @Dayjur11 was first in on Twitter, saying simply: "It's Penny Mordaunt. #thechase"

That tweet was closely followed by JR Hartleys armchair @JRsArmchair who posted a picture of Mordaunt from the Coronation commenting: "Penny mourdant from Wish. #TheChase"

LordGreystoke @PolygoniaSpec weighed in with the same observation, saying: "Penny Mordaunt in seat one, without the sword. #thechase"

Steve Evans @steve_evo shared a picture of Mordaunt in her swimsuit, adding: "Come on seat 1 #thechase"

And Boris Nose @Borisnose2 added: "Lisa went straight from the coronation to #thechase"
