ITV Corrie fans can't believe 'sick' liver transplant selfie storyline

Peter Barlow received some shocking news on Coronation Street as he prepared to present his surgeon with a gift for saving his life. The recovering alcoholic went to the hospital to give Mr Thorne a bottle of whisky for performing his liver transplant last year.

But nothing could have prepared him for what he found out next. Last week nurse Aggie Bailey overheard Mr Thorne gloating to a colleague how he rushed Peter’s operation in order to win a bet.

She later discovered that all Mr Thorne’s operations have been cancelled until further notice. When Peter and his wife Carla were told by Aggie what Mr Thorne did when they arrived to see him, Peter angrily demanded an apology.

And when Aggie went to get a manager to explain what was happening, Peter was thunderstruck to discover that Mr Thorne had taken a selfie with his liver in the operating theatre. The surgeon had then shared it with a colleague with the vile caption 'anyone for foie gras?'

"Is that my liver he's holding up?" he asked in horror as the manager showed him the photo. "And the caption 'anyone for foie gras?' I want him struck off, finished."

Peter raged: "How can I trust him? I want a full check up. I bought the guy a bottle of single malt and I'll tell you what I really want to do with that now." Corrie fans were unable to believe what they were hearing and flocked to Twitter.

@demelcy exclaimed: "A selfie!" @angelsflight_ asked: "Whaaaaat?." @teenamassam remarked: "A selfie with Peter’s liver…shouldn’t laugh but…"

@FLady1980 tweeted: "I'm going to hell, why did I laugh at that caption by the Dr?" @GeorgiaBowring said: "I think I’m going to be sick."
