'It was a tough season' - Erik ten Hag's speech to Manchester United players caught on camera

Erik ten Hag commended Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho for winning the Copa America with Argentina by making a speech during a team meeting at Carrington.

Argentina successfully defended their Copa America title this summer and Martinez started in every game except one at the tournament (he was rested when the group was won).

Garnacho made just one appearance, which came in the final group game against Peru, but being included in the squad represented progress for the youngster after he missed out on a place in the Argentina team that won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a dramatic victory against France.

Martinez and Garnacho have returned to Manchester United as Copa America champions and the pair are set to play a key role in Ten Hag's side again during the new season.

However, before the new campaign kicks off, Ten Hag took time to acknowledge their success by congratulating the duo in a team meeting at Carrington.

Ten Hag gathered the players in a meeting room and a picture of the celebrations after last season's FA Cup triumph was shown, which led to him discussing a winning culture.

"I'm sure it was one of the best moments in your life," said Ten Hag in his speech. "To be there at Wembley, to win a cup, that is a great feeling and we want to do it again, but we have to invest as individuals and as a team to go again. At the end of the day, it's you guys who did this.

"With the squad that was available, for more than one game, we achieved something big and finally, from a tough season - because it was a tough season - we made a successful season.
