‘It’s really frustrating’ – Kieran Trippier sends message to Newcastle fans after injury blow

Kieran Trippier has thanked fans for their messages of support after it was confirmed that he had fractured his foot in Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

The 31-year-old scored his second free-kick in as many games to seal victory at St James’ Park, but was forced off shortly after half-time and is expected to be sidelined for a lengthy period.

It comes as a major blow to Newcastle and the club’s hopes of survival in the Premier League, with Trippier greatly impressing following his £12million move from Atletico Madrid last month.

The England right-back remains unbeaten in the English top flight four games into his spell with the Magpies and has been entrusted with the captain’s armband in Jamaal Lascelles’ absence.

Scans showed Trippier had fractured the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot and the defender took to social media to deliver his reaction to the ‘frustrating’ setback on Monday evening.

‘It’s really frustrating to have picked up the injury in yesterday’s win. We’ve built some momentum and long may that continue,’ the ex-Tottenham full-back told his followers on Instagram.

‘Injuries are a part of football and I will remain positive, work as hard as I can on my rehab to be back fit as quickly as possible playing in front of you fans.

‘For the coming weeks I will offer any help that I can and be supporting our great club in every way possible.

‘Thank you all for your very kind messages of support!’

Javier Manquillo would have been the natural replacement for Trippier, but the Spaniard was also substituted with an injury just moments after his team-mate was forced off.

There are fears Manquillo may have suffered ankle ligament damage which would leave Eddie Howe desperately short of options at right-back.
