Graham Potter shuts down Cristiano Ronaldo critics before Manchester United vs Brighton clash

Brighton manager Graham Potter has shut down suggestions Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is a dwindling force on the world stage.

Having completed a sensational return move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window, the 37-year-old has scored 14 goals in 26 games across all competitions this season.

Despite that, Ronaldo has not found the target in each of his last six appearances.

It already represents his longest goal drought for more than 12 years - but Potter understands the test that awaits his Brighton players when they make the trip to Old Trafford for a rearranged Premier League game with United on Tuesday night (8.15pm).

Speaking about five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo during his pre-match press conference, Potter said: "You run out of superlatives in terms of what he's achieved in his career and the player that he is.

"He's had an absolutely amazing career, world-class. Out-of-this-world class. There's nothing else to say over that. Too often we zoom into individuals and forget that it's a team game.

How many goals will Ronaldo score this season? Have your say in the comments section below.

"Sometimes when the team isn't scoring the person at the front of the pitch gets the zooming in and we've had it ourselves with Neal [Maupay] for example."

Potter added: "From what I've seen, you still see the quality he has and the quality he brings to the group and the team. I have never played against him, we're looking forward to going there and pitting our wits against one of the best players of all-time."
