It's Celtic who owe Rangers a guard of honour as Hotline keeps the receipts in 51 year wait for payback

To guard of honour or not to guard of honour? That is the question being asked ahead of the final Old Firm clash of the season but we all know the answer.

If Celtic avoid defeat to Dundee Utd in their first post-split fixture, then they will head to Ibrox the following week as Champions.

So of course the usual dance around whether Rangers will applaud their bitter rivals onto the pitch comes up again and of course they won't.

But apparently it's actually Rangers who are due one from 51 years ago and Celtic have been making them wait every since. Who knew?

Well, it seems Derek Morrison, Stirling, did. He emailed: "It’s evident that Alistair Johnston is being used as a mouthpiece by the Celtic hierarchy.

"The only team from the Old Firm to give the other a Guard of Honour was Rangers in 1964 for reaching the last four of the Cup Winners Cup, Celtic have never returned the favour and vowed they never would."

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, reckons it would make up for Vaclav Cerny's antics: "While I agree with Ally Johnston that it will be unlikely that Rangers give Celtic a guard of honour, it would go somewhere in a sort of apology for Cerny's childish actions in the last match.

"How Ferguson and his three musketeers didn’t condone his actions still leaves a bitter taste in Celtic fans' eyes."

For once, a Celtic fan is on board with Tina Turner blasting as the teams come. Glen Mitchell emailed: "When Celtic walk out in the next Glasgow Derby, it will be the first time in a long time that the Tina Turner song will actually have any relevance.

"After the match they should change the song to Neil Diamond's Song Sung Blue, which would have much more significance in the venue."
