'It's an indication something is wrong with him' - Manchester United's Anthony Martial targeted in bizarre rant

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker criticised Anthony Martial for wearing gloves while playing football.

A notably gloveless Martial opened the scoring on a sunny Saturday at Old Trafford as United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0. The Frenchman was left with a simple finish just past the half-hour mark, with Antony committing goalkeeper David Bentley before squaring the ball to his teammate who found the net from close range.

It was Martial's eighth goal in all competitions this season, making him the club's joint third-highest goalscorer despite making just 26 appearances. However that is seemingly not enough for Parker, who took aim at the striker after praising Wout Weghorst's 'honest' attitude.

“He [Weghorst] has everything about him that a player like Anthony Martial doesn't," Parker told Soccernews. "Martial comes out and wears gloves. I'm not saying that we are the warmest country in the world but come on… We are in May.

“If you walked on the street with gloves now, people would look at you oddly. Him wearing gloves should be an indication that there is something wrong with him.

“His performances fit someone who would wear gloves in May on a football pitch. It doesn't make any sense, so Erik ten Hag brought in Weghorst to get an honest player and a die for the cause and not someone who is going to tiptoe.”

Martial last committed the grievous offence of wearing gloves during United's 1-0 defeat by Brighton on May 4, a mild Thursday evening on which temperatures fluctuated a little above 10 degrees at the Amex - not factoring for the chilly south coast breeze, of course.
